At The Sanctuary, we are dedicated to the pursuit of authentic Christian community modeled after the first century church. Acts 2:42-47 gives us a brief glimpse of what life was like in the early church. The community was characterized by devotion to both the proclaimed word and to the fellowship of the believers. “They joined with the other believers and devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, sharing in the Lord's Supper and in prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together constantly and shared everything they had. They sold their possessions and shared the proceeds with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity — all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved. Like the early church, our vision calls for us to also be a large community of Christ-followers, sharing life together within the context of smaller group environments. We believe that lasting friendships, authentic Christian care and life-development are experienced best within small groups, and we echo that belief in our church vision. A LARGE COMMUNITY OF SMALLER GROUPS The Sanctuary will be a large community of faith, comprised of many smaller ministry groups. Lasting friendships, authentic Christian care and life-development will be experienced within these community groups. - Excerpt from Sanctuary Vision Statement |
